Where asbestos waste goes
Graham Road Landfill, run by Waste Management, is on South Graham Road in Medical Lake.
The landfill accepts friable and non-friable asbestos (Waste Management). Spokane County staff said in August 2026 that it is the only landfill in the county that can accept asbestos waste (Spokane County staff). The landfill serves Airway Heights, Cheney, Medical Lake, Spokane and Spokane Valley.
For that reason, every asbestos job in Spokane County ends with a truck headed west to Medical Lake.
The 10-day rule and the shipment record
SRCAA says removed asbestos waste must be disposed of within 10 days of removal, and that the contractor must have a Waste Shipment Record for Graham Road Landfill (SRCAA fact sheet). The record follows the load from the job site to the landfill.
- Wet and bag. Material is kept wet and sealed in labeled bags.
- Load carefully. Bags are loaded into a covered truck without tearing.
- Fill the record. The record names the source, the amount and the hauler.
- Deliver. The load goes to the landfill, where it is received under that record.
- Keep the copy. A returned copy is your proof the waste went to the right place.

- Do not put asbestos in household trash or a regular dumpster.
- Do not take it to a transfer station or recycling center.
- Do not store open bags in a garage or shed.
- Do not drive it yourself in an open pickup bed. Wrap and seal it, and confirm what the landfill accepts first.
